Eating Adventures in Santa Fe

Greetings Fellow Foodies!

Recently my husband , 2 dogs and I had the opportunity to spend five days in Santa Fe, NM, just five hours south for us. It was a beautiful road trip as well as eating adventure.

One day we were downtown exploring the “Square” area and landed upon a former Woolworth’s! Yes, it reminded me of the drug stores from my childhood. For the non-baby boomers, it was your parents’ Walgreens back in the day. What struck me was a sign in the window advertising their “Frito Pie.” What the heck is that? I had to find out and did! Basically, they cut the side of a small Frito bag open and pour in chili, cheese and onions over the fritos. Whoa! I had to try it and try it we did. We shared this tasty lunch and later learned it is also called “Street Tacos.” Live and learn! When I make this in the fall for football season, I will use my favorite Boilermaker Chili Recipe and probably use scallions and add fresh tomatoes. The possibilities are endless!

One night, while dining in a Mexican restaurant, I was asked if I wanted green chile, red chile or Christmas on my meal. That was a new one for me! I asked for “Christmas” and enjoyed red chile on half and green on the other half of my Stuffed Poblanos. Thumbs up for this one!

I hope everyone finds their way to Santa Fe someday and enjoys the wonderful food and culture as we did. Don’t forget the Frito Pie and, as always, make it your own and keep it eclectic!
