Lemon Lavender Burrata
Lemon Lavender Burrata
Lemon Lavender Burrata is the perfect small plate for a warm summer happy hour. The light burrata combined with zesty lemon and fragrant lavender produce the perfect storm of flavors. Lavender can be enjoyed in so many forms – fresh, dried or even as an essential oil. This recipe calls for it to be dried, making the recipe easy to produce year-round. Prepare the cheese in advance and drizzle with aged balsamic once plated. Trivia – Lavender is in the Mint family…who knew?
What is “Burrata?” It is a cheese made from mozzarella and cream. While the outer casing is a firm mozzarella, the inside is a soft, creamy combination of cream and a cheese produced from buffalo milk. The result – heavenly! The word “burrata” means “buttered” in Italian. The first time I prepared burrata it reminded me of a water balloon. Be careful while handling this delicate bundle!
A few years ago I auditioned in Los Angeles for the TV show “Master Chef Best Home Cook.” This is the recipe I created for them. As much as the judges enjoyed my dish, the competition was stiff and I did not make it on the show. Even still, it was a fun experience. I may now add “rejected by Master Chef” to my resume!
